Learn More About the Subaru Commitment to Doing Its Part for Mother Earth

If you know the Subaru brand, then you likely know it for the many adventure-ready cars and SUVs it designs and builds. You know them for the capabilities they offer for orienteering in the tough north Virginia terrain around Culpeper. You know them for the safety they afford for navigating the city lights of Charlottesville. Most of all, you know them for how comfortable and tech-savvy they are for any outing to Fredericksburg and beyond.

But did you also know that Subaru was America's first zero-landfill automaker, that is, the first to achieve no-waste status, with all waste recycled or reused? You might have heard of the recent and ongoing National Park Zero-Landfill Initiative. That's one facet of a much broader notion of what we mean. The long story, short: Subaru is just as committed to keeping the Earth as green as possible as it is to producing the vehicles in which to explore it.

In fact, and for instance, Subaru just hit a major milestone in partnership with TerraCycle, a world leader in complex waste collection and repurposing. It has now diverted more than a million hard-to-recycle waste products from landfills and incinerators to its "Subaru Loves the Earth" program. Its aim: to turn them into high-quality, utilitarian recycled products like park benches, picnic tables, and more, and donate the results to some of their many community partners.

It's true: beginning in April of this year, some 588 participating Subaru dealerships nationwide began using TerraCycle Zero Waste Boxes to collect waste commonly thought of as difficult to repurpose, such as snack wrappers and bags, disposable cups and lids, plastic straws, coffee and creamer capsules, and more, for recycling. As well, Subaru has encouraged and will continue to encourage customer commitment to sustainability by likewise encouraging collecting at home or the office and bringing said waste to local participating Subaru dealers.

This is, however, just one of the ways Subaru continues to help do what's best for our Pale Blue Dot. "Subaru Loves the Earth" is just one part of the greater "Subaru Love Promise," too.
