Get a Load of the New 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, Soon to Appear Here in Orange, VA!

As one of America's favorite rugged traveling companions, like a good orienteer, it has come a long way in a short time.

It began as 2011's Subaru XV concept. That quickly became 2012's XV Crosstrek, and, in 2016, the subcompact SUV beloved in today's segment. Now, in its iconic 2.0i, 2.0i Premium, and 2.0i Limited trio, the latest Subaru Crosstrek is back. What do we have to look forward to for the 2019 model year?

First, a few mainstays, better than ever. One, the celebrated four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine, this year, a 2.0-liter capacity putting out a capable 152 horsepower. It's uniqueness, however, lies in its horizontally opposed or "flat" design, versus in-line, with pistons that move laterally to deliver power more directly and efficiently. Two, along with 8.7 inches of towering ground clearance, an available X-MODE® and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, standard. As part of the crossover's architecture, the latter's permanent and always on, anticipatory with managing traction versus other automakers' AWD systems, electronic and characterized as "slip-then-grip." That's front-wheel understeer and rear-wheel oversteer compensation you can depend on for confident handling, let alone fewer moving parts to worry about.

From there, it's all the capabilities you've come to love in 2018 Crosstrek, plus a few perks for 2019:

  • 145 pound-feet of turning and pulling power, with the capability to tow up to 1,500 pounds -- plenty for a small pop-up tent camper
  • 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space to as much as 55.3 with 60/40-split flat-folding rear seats folded, with raised roof rails for extras
  • Great fuel economy -- approximately 23-27 mpg around a city like our Orange, VA and up to 29-33 mpg down the highway by EPA estimates, depending on transmission
  • Safety and driver-assist features from optional EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology and available Blind-Spot Detection/Rear Cross-Traffic Alert for situational awareness to standard Active Torque Vectoring to tackle curves with precision
  • Optional fog lighting with a new variant, Steering Responsive Fog Lights, in select trims, helping you cut through the thick of visibility issues around corners
  • Available SUBARU STARLINK Safety and Security: call first responders, get roadside assistance, receive diagnostic alerts and maintenance notifications, run a Monthly Vehicle Health Report, remotely lock, unlock, and start your Crosstrek and adjust its cabin climate, take advantage of Concierge services, and more

Of course, these aren't all. 2019 Crosstrek will remain comfortable, with cloth and leather-trimmed accommodations coming available heated up front as well as power-adjustable for the driver, all under an available power tilting and sliding moonroof. You'll be in control, too, with a choice of four infotainment options, up from last year's three: a 6.5-inch STARLINK Multimedia system offering standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for smartphones, 6.5- and 8.0-inch Multimedia Plus variants with cloud-based app access, and an 8.0-inch Multimedia Navigation model. The last is fully loaded, with voice-activated GPS guidance, travel updates via SiriusXM All Access Radio, Traffic, and Travel Link, and NFC technology for mobile device connectivity. Factor in available 4G LTE Wi-Fi for an Internet connection out of the way of civilization and an optional 432-watt, eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system in higher trims, and entertainment comes along for the ride.
